The first thing to do when witnessing in a divorce court is to tell the truth. While one may think the truth can be harmful, there is nothing more damaging than perjury. If mistakes had been made during a testimony, correct them. Marrison Family Law says that if a client is challenged with a document that disputes their testimony, saying “I made a mistake” should never be feared.

Give short answers. Make it a point to answer the questions with honesty and integrity. Keep them short, as longer answers can cause one to be asked more. Have the intent to listen to questions carefully. Allow the questioner to finish their queries before responding. Make sure to grasp the question as having poor understanding can challenge one’s truth. Avoid volunteering anything.
